Luxbright reaches new milestone in the development of advanced microfocus X-ray tubes
Luxbright AB (publ) has reached a new technical milestone in the development of the company’s production capabilities for advanced microfocus X-ray tubes. A new prototype has been successfully verified for operation at 200 kV, confirming key elements of the production process and technical capabilities that Luxbright has built up. The result marks an important step in the company’s continued development of X-ray tubes for non-destructive testing (NDT).
Over several years, Luxbright has invested in production equipment, process development and specialist expertise in advanced X-ray technology. The milestone now achieved means that the company has verified its ability, using its own production process, to develop and manufacture a microfocus X-ray tube capable of operating at the specified tube voltage of 200 kV. This provides significantly greater penetration capability than Luxbright’s previously developed microfocus X-ray tubes.
Developing glass microfocus X-ray tubes for this level of tube voltage places high demands on design, materials and the manufacturing process. At comparable performance levels, ceramic X-ray tubes are commonly used today and are generally significantly more expensive than glass-based alternatives. Luxbright’s X-ray tubes may therefore offer an attractive technical and commercial proposition in applications requiring high tube voltage. Verification at 200 kV is an important part of the ongoing development programme. The next step is to progressively verify the tube’s power capability, focal spot and lifetime before the product is ready for commercialisation.
At the same time, the ability to develop and manufacture microfocus X-ray tubes for this voltage level has significance beyond the current product. It creates a technical foundation for the development of customised OEM X-ray tubes across multiple tube voltage levels and application areas. Luxbright’s production platform and specialist expertise can thereby be leveraged for a broader future product offering and create new commercial opportunities.
